Jesus called Bonnalee Asbury home to heaven August 8, 2025. A celebration of Bonnalee's life will be held Tuesday, August 12 at 2 p.m. at Parkview on Hollybrook (Independent Living), Longview, TX. Bonnalee Pell Asbury was born December 23, 1927 in Rockford , Illinois to William & Marjorie Pell. She grew up on a farm with her older brother, William. She graduated from East Rockford High School in 1945. She received a two year degree from Blackburn College (Carlinville, IL) in May, 1947. It was there she met the love of her life, James William Asbury. They married May 29, 1948, and moved to Champagne, IL where she worked for Sullivan Chevrolet while Jim attended the University of Illinois to complete a B.S. Engineering degree. Bonnie and Jim moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1950 where Jim worked for KN Energy. They were transferred to Longview, TX in 1983. Jim & Bonnie raised their four children, William, Katherine, James and Thomas in Hastings, Nebraska. Bonnie was an active member of First United Methodist Churches & P.E.O.in Hastings & Longview. She enjoyed volunteer work for various organizations in Hastings & Longview. Bonnie & Jim enjoyed playing golf & traveling together, where they visited all 50 U.S. states & over 50 countries of the world. Bonnie loved & was a faithful follower of Jesus, a great example to so many. She enjoyed Bible Studies & prayer groups in Hastings & Longview. Joshua 24:15 'As for me & my house, we will serve the Lord' was one of Bonnie's favorite Bible verses. She also, had memorized Psalm 139 & many other verses. She will be remembered as a loving & faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Bonnalee & James enjoyed 72 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in June, 2020. Bonnalee is survived by her children William Asbury (Luanne), Katherine Schnake (Marc), James Asbury (Cathy), her grandchildren, Brett Asbury (Jen), Tom Asbury (Keely), Jon Schnake, Ben Schnake (Jess), Kristen Madsen (Craig), Evan Asbury (Rachel), Elizabeth Briggs (Thomas), great-grandchildren Will, Luca, Hudson & Casey Asbury, Genevieve & Annabelle Briggs, step-great-grandchildren Damon & Tucker Atkinson, Christian & Bowen Madsen and her brother William Pell. Bonnalee was preceded in death by her parents, husband James and son, Thomas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 1st United Methodist Church of Longview.
