Larry Banta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & Casey Funeral Home - Salmon on Feb. 20, 2025.
Phillip Larry Banta, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Salmon, Idaho, on February 15, 2025.
Larry was born on August 5, 1935, in Salmon, Idaho, to Floyd and Ruth Banta. He was the youngest of six brothers. He spent his childhood in the Pahsimeroi Valley, where his father worked at the Patterson Mine. Larry attended elementary school in May, Idaho, and later graduated from Challis High School.
Larry enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a mechanic at Fort Lewis in Washington. After leaving the Army, he worked in various jobs, including as an equipment operator in southern Idaho, a medical transport bus driver, and a car transport delivery driver for Quality Motors.
On August 16, 1964, Larry married Aloha Jeanne Palmer in Boise, Idaho. Together, they raised six children: Tom, Gary, Krystal, Karen, Layne, and Loni. The family lived in several locations throughout the years before ultimately returning to settle in Salmon.
Larry enjoyed fishing, woodworking, reading, and taking scenic drives around Lemhi County. His love for nature and quiet moments remained a source of comfort throughout his life.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Black of Salmon, Idaho, and Loni (Dan) Hooper of Moyie Springs, Idaho, as well as his daughter-in-law, Debbie Palmer of Pocatello, Idaho. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Floyd Banta; his beloved wife, Jeannie Banta; his brothers Carroll, Darrell, Jim, Gayle, and Russ; his sons Tom Palmer, Gary Myers, and Layne Banta; his daughter Krystal Crist; sons-in-law Elton Crist and Rick Black; and infant grandchild Sami Hooper.
Larry will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to share in his life.
