Larry O. Bartel
80 of New London, passed away on August 15, 2023. He was born on August 26, 1942, to the late Orville and Lucille (Schwirtz) Bartel. Larry was a hard worker who believed that one looks better when they are working. Throughout his life he held various jobs that showcased his dedication and craftsmanship. He began his career at the Edison Furniture Factory where he honed his skills in woodworking. Later he ventured into concrete construction and took side jobs with his friend Dennis Berndt. Larry also worked at the Millcraft Factory in Waupaca where he specialized in building modular homes. Additionally, he had a knack for polishing props for Trade Winds in Manawa. Eventually Larry started his own business in the produce industry which not only provided him with a livelihood but also served as an extra income for vacations with his beloved wife.
In his free time, he indulged in his passions and hobbies. He had a deep love for hiking and embarked on numerous treks, including a remarkable 30-mile journey in Mexico. Whenever time allowed, he would cover 20 miles exploring the great outdoors. Larry's adventurous spirit led him to travel extensively visiting every state in the country except for Alaska. Every February he and his wife would escape the winter chill by vacationing in Yuma, AZ, until the unfortunate arrival of the Covid pandemic. Additionally, Larry found solace in reading science fiction books and had an impressive collection of world stamps during his earlier years. He was also a Veteran in the Army Reserve for many years and got called in to serve from August of 1964 to January of 1965.
Larry is survived by his wife Beverly (Procknow) whom he wed on November 1, 1969, and dated 8 years prior to that. His stepmother Edna Bartel and his siblings: Dean Bartel, Virgina Murray, Patti Roberts, Keith Bartel, Kevin Bartel and Renee Hensel. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
As per Larry's preference, there will be no services held to commemorate his life. In honor of his memory, it is suggested to spend time with loved ones and cherish the moments shared together.
His two favorite quotes were, "You look better working" and "I bet you $100 I.
The last thing everyone could relate to is his favorite drink, Drambuie.
May Larry's adventurous spirit and strong work ethic be an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be remembered fondly for his dedication, love for his family and zest for life.

Our condolences to the family, we've never seen a man work so hard, and smile so big, and always had the time to stop and tell a story. He truly will be missed.
