Lawrence Francis “Larry” Bexten, 76, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 28, 1947, in Jefferson City, the son of Anton John and Marie Josephine (Mengwasser) Bexten.
Larry attended school at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Rich Fountain and graduated from Fatima High School in 1965.
After graduation, Larry worked for Quaker Window Products until he joined the United States National Guard.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life on October 28, 1967, at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Sandra Katherine “Sandy” Yancey who survives at the home.
In August of 1967, Larry started working for Modern Litho Print Company, where he retired in 2009, having served as the plant superintendent for fifteen years.
He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and their Clown Club, the American Legion, and the Eagle’s Club.
Gardening was his passion and he spent years perfecting his lawn and beautiful flower beds. He also loved canning produce from his vegetable garden and made gallons of multiple kinds of wine.
His greatest joy was being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended every sporting event, school, or activity that they were involved in.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Sandy; two children, Tricha (Sam) Gaines, Jefferson City; Shawn (Christie) Bexten, Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Zach (Reagan) Schmidt, Ashley (Daniel) Lensing, Logan Gaines, Chase (Callie) Bexten, Dylan (Abby) Gaines, and Trey Bexten; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Harlow, Paxton, Natalie, Noah, and Harper; and seven siblings, Paul (Mary) Bexten, Westphalia; Charles (Norma) Bexten, Jefferson City; Rita (Richard) Dudenhoeffer, Linn; Genrose Maddox, Jefferson City; Ralph (Mary Jane) Bexten, Rich Fountain; Elsie (Gus) Irvin, Jefferson City; and Marilyn Curtit, Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Clayton Maddox.
Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Trimble Funeral Homes with a prayer service at 3:30.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Jason Doke officiating.
Entombment with military honors will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
