Larry Brunk, age 85 of Ocheyedan, Iowa died Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation will be Friday, September 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ocheyedan.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 14th, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, IA, with Rev. Richard Milbrandt officiating.
Burial will follow in the Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, Ocheyedan, IA.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan and/or Wood-Miller American Legion, Post # 326 of Ocheyedan, IA.
Larry Lee Brunk was born January 30, 1939, in Melvin, Iowa, the son of Harold Walter Edward and Pearl E. (Benz) Brunk. He was raised in rural Melvin area and attended Goewey Country School until 8th and continued at Melvin High School, graduating in 1957. After his education, he entered the U.S. Army on March 14, 1958, and was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. After his discharge, he returned to the Melvin area where he was united in marriage to Ruby Jacobsma on February 17, 1961. Together they farmed and were blessed with two children, Wade and Susan.
He farmed and raised crops, hogs and cattle. In 1970 they moved to a farm one mile north of Ocheyedan, and continued farming. He retired in 2001 and remained living on the family farm until 2006, when they moved into Ocheyedan.
Larry was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan and the American Legion, Post # 326 in Ocheyedan. He enjoyed gardening and especially visiting with friends and family.
In 2024, Larry and Ruby moved to the Meadows Assisted Living in Worthington, MN.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Brunk of Worthington, MN; a son, Wade of Round Lake, MN; son-in-law, Todd Ackerman of Ocheyedan, IA; two grandsons, Derek (wife, Megan) Ackerman, and their children Quinnley and Sydney, all of Ocheyedan, IA and Devin (wife, Amy) Ackerman, and their children, Blair, Brynn and Tess, all of Harris, IA; nephew, Brad (wife, Roxann) Brunk of Spencer, IA; and several other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Pearl Brunk; stepfather, Clifford Brunk; his daughter, Susan Ackerman; a brother, Dennis Brunk.
