Larry V. Foster, 81, passed away on March 15, 2026, in
Anderson, IN. Larry was born on January 10, 1945, to parents Dick and Eva Foster of
Orestes, IN. Larry graduated from Alexandria Monroe High School in 1963 and was an outstanding varsity athlete there, receiving multiple letters in football and basketball. In Larry's senior year, he was a member of the starting five of the basketball team that won the Anderson sectional in dramatic fashion. It was a memory that he enjoyed for his entire life.
After graduation, Larry entered a skilled-trades apprenticeship program in machine repair at GM's Guide Lamp Division in Anderson. After successfully completing his apprenticeship, Larry worked for GM at both Guide Lamp and the GM Metal Center in Marion. Larry retired in 2013 after 50 years of service, which was a seniority goal he set for himself and achieved.
Larry loved sports. He shared that passion as a youth coach when his sons, Aaron and Derek, were kids. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Indiana University. He was a long-time season ticket holder for the Bears and had the opportunity to travel to New Orleans and watch the Hoosier basketball team win a national championship in 1987. He also lived long enough to enjoy an astonishing sports story – IU winning the national championship in football.
Larry and his wife, Ann, enjoyed road trips together, frequently in the open air of one of Larry's beloved Corvette convertibles. In retirement, they spent several winters in Florida where they enjoyed sunny days and sunsets at the beach, great meals and spending time with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Ann Todd Foster of Anderson, along with sons Aaron Foster of Anderson and Derek Foster of
Tacoma, WA, and a stepson, Rob Smith (Jan Lesniak) of Indianapolis. Larry is also survived by a sister, Jane Foster Stanley of Alexandria and grandchildren Alexus Anne Foster and Donovan Prescott Foster of
Tacoma, WA, and Jacqueline Genevieve Foster of
Upland, CA. Additionally, Larry is survived by the mother of his sons, Susie Lacy of Chesterfield, several nieces and nephews and two friends who were like family members, Matt and Vicki Covington of Frankton. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Foster.
The family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Health and Living in Anderson for the care they provided to Larry during the last few weeks of his life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Loose Funeral Home and Crematory in Anderson. Larry will be cremated and interred at The Gardens at Willowcrest Park, located behind Loose Funeral Homes. Consistent with Larry's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services; however, there will be an informal gathering of family and friends later this year to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Larry's honor to support youth sports through the Alexandria Community Center or a
charity of the donor's choice.
