Larry Eugene Fox, 83, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on February 6, 1942, to Charles Frank Fox and Magdalene Gardner in McDowell County, North Carolina. He is survived by his sister, Linda Amiss; his daughter, Laura Fox Worrell, and her husband, Sheldon Carter Worrell III; and his grandchildren, Margaret Grace Worrell and Carter Lee Worrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Fox; his daughter, Angela Cheryl Fox; his brothers, Dennis Fox and Charles Fox; and his sister, Gloria Ann Fox.Larry grew up on a farm in Burnsville, NC, where he took on farm chores and gardening responsibilities from an early age. His family later moved to Virginia, and he graduated from Warwick High School. His love for hunting and fishing eventually led him to Alaska, where he worked on the pipeline. After joining the Army Reserves, he returned to Burnsville, NC, where he met his wife, Rebecca. Together, they built a life in the Tidewater area of Virginia.Larry became the first employee of Ritchie-Curbow Construction Co. in Newport News, VA, where he worked for 34 years before retiring as a commercial construction superintendent. In addition, he owned and operated his own residential construction business in Gloucester, VA. Buildings such as schools, parking garages, churches, and homes across the area stand as lasting evidence of his hard work and craftsmanship. His hobbies included hunting, spending time with family and friends, and most of all fishing. Fishing was his greatest passion, and he made time for it whenever he could. The life he built with his family was his greatest legacy and deepest joy far surpassing any brick-and-mortar structure he has left behind. His 52-year marriage to Rebecca was marked by deep love and mutual respect. Together, they built a lifetime of memories traveling, working side-by-side in the yard, fishing, hosting and attending gatherings, and joyfully participating in every part of their daughters life. Larry devoted many years to caring for Rebecca with extraordinary love and faithfulness during her illness. He extended that same devotion to his daughter, Laura, steadfastly supporting her in every endeavor. More than the quintessential father-daughter bond, they shared a deep connection rooted in mutual respect and unconditional love, growing even stronger with each passing season of their lives.Larry also shared a special relationship with his son-in-law, Donnie, who regarded him as a second father. Donnie deeply valued Larrys wisdom and felt privileged to learn from his example. In his later years, Larry embraced the role of grandfather with equal dedication. His presence at baseball and softball games became a beloved tradition, and he took great pride in celebrating every milestone and special occasion in the lives of his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his honesty, faithfulness, wisdom, and humility.Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am, the family will receive friends at Severn Church, 9066 Robins Neck Road, Gloucester, VA 23061.
