Larry Wayne Gibson, 74, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
Born in Jonesboro, AR, on October 30, 1950, he was the son of the late John and Ruby Lee Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Verna Shadwell; and his siblings Willard, Earl, Virginia, Maxine, Lilly, Donna, T.C., and Johnny.
Larry graduated from Jonesboro High School, and then joined the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He then was employed by the CSXT Co. for 28 years, he then went on to serving the Lord as an Officer in the Salvation Army, in Georgia and in Cumberland, until his retirement.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda (Shadwell) Gibson; three children, Philip Gibson, Christie Gibson, and Heather Gibson; brother, Michael Gibson; sister-in-law, Marsha Kammauf; grandchildren, Josiah, Christian, Mark Jr, Rainey, Jasmine, Brenda, Bianca, Samson, Devyn; great-grandchildren Klaudya, Zoiey, Evelyn, Abigail, Lennox, Bryar, Khaleesi; also survived by a large extended family including many nieces, and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Wednesday, January 29th from 4-6 P.M.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Salvation Army Chapel, 701 E First St, Cumberland on Thursday, January 30th at 1 P.M. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Larry will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park where military honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
