"Larry" Lawrence Charles Gilbert, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away and entered into heaven at the age of 71 surrounded by the unwavering love of his family during his final days. Larry was born on February 20, 1954, to Donald and Dorothy (Bodnar) Gilbert in Muskegon, Michigan. He was a graduate of Muskegon Catholic Central and carried the Crusader spirit with him. Larry was the devoted husband to his wife Rita for over 47 years. Their marriage was a true partnership built on unconditional love, laughter, and deep faith. He was a proud and loving father to Nicolas (Lindsay) Gilbert, Justin (Sarah) Gilbert, and Stefanie Gilbert, and a deeply cherished Grandpa and Papa to Kylie, Olivia, Luke, Julia, Lincoln, and Emersyn. Larry always found joy in life - whether it was catching Lake Michigan perch with his custom-made GilbyFlex fishing rods with his family, growing an immaculate colorful garden filled with beautiful blooming flowers each year for Rita to enjoy, hosting his family for Thanksgiving with the tastiest homemade turkey dressing, boating, playing cards with Rita and their lifelong friends, his love of anything "punkin'," or experiencing joy with all six of his grandkids as they grew and flourished. He was known for his engineer's mind and natural talent building and fixing just about anything - often with nothing more than a toolbox, some determination, and a lot of heart. What set Larry apart most was his genuine selfless heart and always giving others the benefit of the doubt. He would help anyone in need without hesitation - family, friends, and total strangers. His kindness, upbeat attitude, and humble generosity made a lasting impression on everyone who interacted with him, even during the challenging times of life. His faith in God guided him and laid a solid foundation for when the road became unbearably difficult. Above all else, Larry's life centered around his enduring love for his family - especially for Rita - and notably their grandchildren who held an extra special place in his heart. We invite you to honor Larry at a VISITATION that will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, June 16, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with the ROSARY prayed at 5:30PM. A CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel. MEMORIALS in memory of Larry may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Harbor Hospice Foundation. Though cancer took his body, it could never take his immense love for his family, his positive spirit, or the permanent mark he left on those lucky enough to cross paths with him. He will be missed beyond words and always hold a special place in our hearts.
