Larry Robert Gillies, age 78, of Tecumseh, MI, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at his home. He was born on December 13, 1946, in Flint, MI, the son of the late Robert Edwin and Lois Ruth (Pope) Gillies. He enlisted in the Air Force after high school in October 1965 during the Vietnam war. He was joined in marriage with Bonnie Jean Feuerstein in Ypsilanti, MI at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on February 28, 1969 and they have shared over 55 years together. Larry was employed and retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years.
Larry was a member of the Tecumseh VFW and the Tecumseh American Legion. He enjoyed building things, especially when he could do it with his kids and his grandkids. He loved hunting and was an avid sports fan, especially when it involved The U of M beating Ohio State and watching Detroit Lions football. He spent a lot of time on the golf course and loved taking his wife out with their many friends.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, Larry is survived by his two son, Greg (Katie) Gillies of Boise, ID, and Joe (Casey McClellan) Gillies of Tecumseh, MI; his daughter, Dawn (Dan) Burkhart of Boise, ID; his brother, Bill (Josie) Gillies of Newport Richey, FL; his grandchildren, Chelsea Pyzik, Savannah Gillies, Alexus Bassett, Rose Gillies, and Zackery Gillies; three great-grandchildren and one on the way and several grand dogs.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Rose Gillies; and his sister, Barbara Gillies.
At his request, cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Larry's honor may be made to the Lenawee Humane Society.
