Larry Ray Hafley, age 81 of Dickson, TN, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Humphreys County Nursing Home. He was born on July 18, 1943, in Peoria, IL to his parents Cecil and Marie Hafley. Larry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in History, with a minor in English, from Illinois State University in 1965. Larry’s spiritual interests were in the word of God. His temporal interests included Alabama Crimson Tide football, playing basketball, socializing and playing cards with friends. Larry was also a voracious reader and student of history. His special interest was in the Civil War and all things related to Abraham Lincoln.

Larry taught 6th grade from 1965 – 1967. While Larry loved teaching school, his real drive was as a gospel preacher for the church that you read about in the New Testament. Larry preached the gospel of Christ for 56 years from 1965 – 2021; he worked with the Lord’s church in multiple locations: Pontiac, IL (1965-1967), Plano, IL (1967-1974), Russellville, AL (1974-1980), Pekin, IL (1980-1988), Memphis, TN (1988-1992), Baytown, TX (1992-2006), and Summer Shade, KY (2009-2021).

Larry is also a published author - The Christ, The Cross, and The Church in 2001 and Queries & Explications (Book 1) in 2021. He was a staff writer for Truth Magazine from February 1971 until October 2006. Larry also handled the “That’s a Good Question” section of the magazine for 30 years (1971-2001). Further, Larry was also a leading contributor of articles for seven years (1997-2005) for Watchman Magazine (https://watchmanarchives.online/). Through the decades, Larry held numerous public debates regarding biblical topics as he defended the word of God.
