Larry Hargus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenlawn Funeral Home North on Dec. 6, 2024.
Larry Dean Hargus, 77, was completely healed from cancer and went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:23 a.m., on December 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. Larry was born to John and Juanita Hargus on July 22, 1947, in Springfield Missouri. He was raised in Morrisville, Missouri, where he later graduated from Morrisville High School before attending and graduating from Baptist Bible College in Springfield.
Larry was known as a kind, compassionate, and loving person which was exemplified through his many years of service to the Lord, first as a missionary for four years from 1978-1982 in Indonesia and then as a pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church, Fair Grove Baptist Temple, and Bible Baptist Church for the remaining forty-four years of his life. Larry was still pastor of Bible Baptist Church at his passing, completing his life-long mission to faithfully serve the Lord until death, leaving an exceptional legacy for his family and all that knew him. Although his ultimate passion was sharing the saving grace of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with anybody he encountered, he also enjoyed riding horses, hunting, fishing, playing cards, spending time with his family, and joking around.
Larry was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Linda Nelson, on June 4,1966. Larry and Linda shared twenty-six years of marriage together before Linda's passing due to cancer in 1993. During their precious time together, they served as missionaries to Indonesia and as pastor and pastor's wife. Together they were blessed with four loving children: Larry Randall (Randy), Twyla, Terri, Tabitha, and one unborn child (in Heaven). A few years after the passing of Linda, he met Gracie and the two married in 1999 enjoying twelve wonderful years together before Gracie's passing in 2011. Being the loving man that he was, Larry cared for and took care of both Linda and Gracie in the home during their sicknesses, until they passed.
At his passing, he was married to and survived by his current wife of nine years who lovingly cared for him through his sickness, Katie West-Hargus; his four children and their spouses and children: Randy and Tina Hargus of Stockton with Amanda & Dustin McCrickard and three children, Craig "Greg" & Rachael Hargus and four children, Dustin & Logan Hargus and one child; Twyla and David Cobb of Buffalo with Tyler & Hayley Cobb and five children, Brianna & Samson Pleasant and four children, and Dylan & Trish Cobb; Terri and Kenny Todd of Fair Grove with Terra & Jody Hahn and one child, Wade & Valery Todd and three children; Tabitha and Brandon Hirayama of Fair Grove with Kruz Jackson, Kadell Jackson, Gemma Hirayama, Brantley Hirayama, and Briggs Hirayama; his mother, Juanita Hargus; four siblings and their spouses: Kay & Danny Hayter, Gene & Sandy Hargus, Donna & Darrell Shirey, James & Kari Hargus; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his late wives, Linda Hargus and Gracie Hargus; one unborn child; his father, John Hargus; his in-laws, Jack and Barbara Nelson; and his grandparents.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Preferred Hospice for the exceptional care in his last days and a special thank you to Nicole "Gina" who became like family as she so kindly and tenderly cared for their Dad.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the BBFI Missions Office to help support Larry's greatest passion.
