Levi Barnts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenlawn Funeral Home North on Feb. 12, 2026.
Levi C. Barnts, age 100, of Springfield, Missouri, departed from this life on February 11, 2026. He was born on July 1, 1925, in Springfield, Missouri, to Mabel Beeching Barnts and Guy Barnts.

Levi spent some of his fondest childhood days in Montier, Missouri, memories he cherished throughout his life. After graduating from high school, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army in 1943. His distinguished military career included service in both World War II and the Korean War. During his time in combat, Levi earned numerous commendations, including multiple combat ribbons, a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star, reflecting his bravery, sacrifice, and dedication.

In 1947, Levi married the love of his life, Selma Juanita Willhite. Together they built a life grounded in love, faith, and devotion, sharing 60 wonderful years of marriage until Selma's passing in 2007. Their union was blessed with four children: Connie, Larry, Patricia, and Randy.

Levi's military service took his family across the country and around the world. They lived in Missouri, Kansas, Wisconsin, Okinawa, New Mexico (twice), Texas (twice), Germany, and Illinois. After retiring from the Army in 1965, Levi returned his family to Springfield, Missouri, the place he proudly called home.

Following his military retirement, Levi continued to serve his community. He worked as an electrician for Holmes Electronics and later as a State security guard for DFS. His commitment to fellow veterans remained steadfast. As a dedicated member of The Veterans Memorial Team, Levi helped ensure that veterans and their families received the honor, dignity, and recognition they deserved. Through his involvement, he assisted in honoring more than a thousand families. He also enjoyed volunteering his time working bingo at the 3404 VFW Post, where he built lasting friendships and remained active in the veterans' community.

Levi was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Selma Barnts; his parents, Mabel Beeching and Guy Barnts; his sisters, Nadine Phillips and Wanda Williams; and his brothers, Gilbert Barnts and Guy Barnts Jr.

He is survived by his children: Connie and her husband Paul Beiler, Larry Barnts, Patricia Barnts, and Randy Barnts; as well as 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of strength, service, and love.

Levi will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, decorated soldier, and faithful friend. His century of life was marked by courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to both his family and his country. His legacy will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
