Larry Hart, 83, of Oskaloosa, died Sept. 12, 2025, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House. He was born in Oskaloosa on January 11, 1942, the son of Leland and Maxine Hart. He attended Oskaloosa High School, and following his graduation in 1960, Larry joined the U.S. Navy, serving for nearly five years while stationed in California.

On July 25, 1965, he was united in marriage to Karen Fuller at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. They had two children, Brent and Jason.

Larry worked at several Oskaloosa organizations during his career, including Wilcox-Garland Furniture, Sparks Glass, and also owned the Trading Post convenience store for several years. He joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1982, and was the postmaster in Fremont, Iowa, for many years until his retirement in 2002.

He enjoyed many hobbies during his life, from woodworking and playing the guitar, to mowing the grass at local golf courses and volunteering to support veterans. But his passion was bass fishing whenever possible. He was an active member of the South Central Iowa Bass Club for many years, and other area fishing clubs as well. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and Oskaloosa Jaycees, and also served as a deputy sheriff in Warren County, patrolling parts of Norwalk and Lakewood.

Larry is survived by his two children, Brent Hart and Jason (Jackie) Hart, his grandson, Jackson Hart, all of Virginia; and his sister Linda (Bill) McCarthy of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen, and his parents.

As was Larry's wish, his body has been cremated. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House or the American Cancer Society.
