Glen Alvin Veldhuizen, of Oskaloosa, IA was born at Mercy Hospital on February 28, 1940 to Frank and Helen Veldhuizen. Glen attended Cedar School from 1st grade through 10th grade. He attended Pella Christian High School his junior and senior year where he was the secretary of his class and band president his senior year. He graduated from Pella Christian High in 1957. Glen met Betty Joan Synhorst when they rode in a Suburban together to high school. They married on June 24, 1960.

Glen began farming at an early age with his dad, Frank and all of his brothers. After he married Betty, he continued farming in Cedar with his brother, Lee and son, Ed until he was 75 years old. Glen served on the Farm Bureau Board and the Mahaska County Pork Producer Board. He was the Swine Superintendent when his children, Ed and Sheryl showed pigs at the fair. Glen was a board member of the Oskaloosa Christian School and treasurer of the Cedar Christian Reformed Church. He served many years on the Oskaloosa Church of the Nazarene board. He was the Missionary President at the Oskaloosa Church of the Nazarene, the Iowa District Work and Witness Coordinator for 12 years, a local delegate to the Iowa District Assembly for 30 years and served as an Iowa delegate to the General Assembly Missionary Convention twice. Glen led the Sunday morning prayer group and attended the Saturday morning Men's Prayer Breakfast for many years.

Glen loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his 5 brothers and sisters and their families. He enjoyed farming, traveling to all 50 states, reading the Bible, many Christian books, and attending the Southern Iowa Fair and Iowa State Fair.

Glen has been a faithful believer and follower of Jesus Christ and that relationship has been the cornerstone of his life's path.

On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Glen died at his home in Oskaloosa at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 6 days.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, son, Ed (Cathy) Veldhuizen, Sheryl (Matt) Brown, grandchildren, Michael (Sanja) Veldhuizen, Heidi (Mark) Van Sickle, Nathan (Tessa) Veldhuizen, and Austin (Mackenzie) Brown, great-grandchildren Brielle Van Sickle, Jack Veldhuizen, Will Veldhuizen, Rylie Van Sickle, Leo Veldhuizen, Eisley Van Sickle and Ruby Veldhuizen, siblings, Marilyn Boender, Charles "Chuck" (Marsha) Veldhuizen, Lee (Nancy) Veldhuizen, Loren (Nellie) Veldhuizen, Rosalie (Bob) Strabbing and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant sons, Mark and Michael Veldhuizen, parents, Frank and Helen Veldhuizen, in-laws, Anthony and Elizabeth Synhorst, infant nephew Eric Veldhuizen and brother-in-law, Cornie Boender.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 11th from 4p-8p at Bates Funeral Home in Oskaloosa, IA. Funeral service will be Friday, September 12th at 1pm at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa, IA. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gateway Church of the Nazarene or Oskaloosa City Band.
