BATTLE CREEK-Larry D. Hawthorne, 85, of Battle Creek, formerly of Fullerton, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton with Reverend Joseph Leech officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at Fullerton Cemetery in Fullerton with military honors by Fullerton American Legion Post #151. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday, January 21st at the funeral home. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home is serving the family.
Larry Dean Hawthorne was born September 26, 1937, in Fullerton, NE to Charles and Doris (Reed) Hawthorne. He was the youngest of five children. He grew up in Fullerton and graduated in 1955. He was in the United States Marine Corp from 1958 to 1961. After, he trucked and custom harvested with his father. In 1963, he married Jean E. Marco and they had three children: Kyle, Kayla, and Kent. Larry worked in trucking and agriculture all of his life, which included 30 years in the farm fuel delivery business. He moved to Battle Creek, NE in 2008.
Larry is survived by his three children and their spouses, Kyle and Diane Hawthorne of Wisconsin, Kayla and Todd Roberts of Battle Creek, Kent and Theresa Hawthorne of Battle Creek; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernadine Batenhorst of Cedar Rapids.
He is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; sister, Vivian Kolm; and his brothers, Lyle and Russell.
So per Larry's favorite parting statement, "Don't take any wooden nickels."
