Larry Hogan Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hobbs Funeral Home - South Portland on Feb. 3, 2026.
Larry Patrick Hogan, a proud veteran and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2026 at the Maine Veteran's Home in Scarborough. He was born in Portland on Jan. 15, 1948, the son of William Hogan and Margaret Maloney Hogan, and brother of Bill Hogan and sister Jackie (Hogan)Sellick.
Growing up in So. Portland, Larry was surrounded by a close-knit band of friends, all of whom remained friends until his passing. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served as an infantryman in Vietnam. While he carried the invisible weight of PTSD long after his return - a burden shared by many patriots - he remained an American hero to his family and friends. His family is proud to celebrate his contribution to our country as they mourn his passing with heavy hearts and profound respect.
An avid sportsman, Larry spent many summer days fishing and cruising the waters of Casco Bay, as well as fishing Maine's lakes and ponds. He loved spending time in the woods and looked forward to deer hunting season each fall, when he and his buddies would pack up their gear and head north. Always a lover of animals and nature, his bird feeders were kept full so he could enjoy watching the different birds from his living room window. One of his biggest passions was riding his Harley throughout southern Maine and NH. He was proud of his bike and enjoyed being a "road warrior"! Many enjoyable days were spent swimming, boating and fishing at Panther Pond with his cousin Terry and her husband Brian.
Larry was generous and kind, and will be lovingly remembered for his beautiful smile and gentle manner. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Bill. Cherishing his memory will be his two daughters, Erin Heskett and Rebecca Hogan, stepson Richard Peterson (Wendy), sister-in-law Barbara White (John), niece Jennifer Campbell, former wife Robyn, and sister Jackie (Ian), his grandchildren: Kylee, Abigail, Christopher, Tyler, Nathaniel, Amanda and Andrew, along with seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Special gratitude to Donna Plummer, his devoted caregiver and dear friend, to Kevin Bagley, good friend and fellow vet who was always willing to help in any way he could, to close childhood friend Jimmy Kane, to Dick Dorr, who visited Larry daily at the VA home until the end, and last but not least, his close friend of over sixty five years, Brian Cross, who shared some of the best adventures of Larry's life! Thank you to each of you and to his many other friends (you know who you are) who made his life more joyful!
Services will be held at a later date.
A Beautiful Life
A beautiful life
that came to an end,
He died as he lived,
everyone's friend.
In our hearts a memory
will always be kept,
of one we loved
and will never forget.
