Larry Hunter, age 88, of North Webster, passed away peacefully at The Waters of Syracuse on November 7, 2025. Born on March 12, 1937 in Rochester, IN to Nelson and Mariam Hunter. He married his wife Jean Ann on December 27, 1987.
Larry had a notable career, retiring as the full-time Fire Chief at the Syracuse Fire Department in 2002. He also held positions at Syracuse Rubber and Starcraft, where he was known for his strong work ethic and leadership skills. Larry devoted his life to serving his community and protecting others, earning the respect and admiration of many throughout his career.
A proud alumnus of North Webster High School, Larry graduated in 1956. Larry and Jean Ann shared a passion for adventure, traveling extensively across the country in their RV and making countless memories along the way. Their love for camping was rivaled only by the joy they found in spending time in the garden. As his children grew up, he was actively involved as part of the pit crew for their BMX races.
Larry was a long-time member of both the North Webster Lions Club and North Webster Community Church. He was well-known among his friends and neighbors for his enthusiasm for Notre Dame Football, as well as his sweet tooth, which often led him to indulge in delightful treats.
He is survived by his loving children, Perry (Darleen) Hunter of Warsaw, Randy Hunter of Syracuse, and Shelly (Dan) Clodfelter of Syracuse. Larry also leaves behind step-children Dena (Brad) Chaney of North Webster, Nancy Ladd of North Webster, and Jason Ladd of Cromwell, along with his cherished grandchildren, including Quinn, Spencer, Brooke, Lauren, Ryan, and Brittnee. He also had 12 great-grandchildren he dearly loved.
Larry is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean Ann, who passed away in 2022, as well as his children Lori and Gary Hunter, his brother Dean Hunter, and his parents.
The family will welcome friends and family for his Life Celebration Visitation at Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services-Syracuse, located at 1001 South Huntington St, Syracuse, IN 46567, on November 14, 2025. The visitation will be held from 3 PM to 6 PM, followed by his funeral service starting at 6 PM.
Donations in Larry's honor may be given to the Turkey Creek Fire Territory, 402 N. Huntington Street, Syracuse, IN 46567.
