Larry Wesley Ison, 78, of
Chillicothe, Ohio, formerly of
Grayson, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. His passing leaves a space that can never be filled, yet his legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born on September 16, 1947, in
Grayson, Kentucky, Larry was the son of the late Elmer and Hester Blevins Ison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lewie Edison Ison.
A devoted Christian and faithful servant of God, Larry's life was a testimony to his deep and abiding faith. He was a cherished member of Jeannettes Creek Christian Baptist Church and was a licensed, ordained, and bonded minister of the Gospel. Throughout his ministry, Larry shared the Word with conviction and compassion, preaching, singing, and playing his guitar in churches across Kentucky and Ohio. He pastored at Christian Baptist Church in Louisa, Kentucky; Christian Baptist Church in Ironton, Ohio; Hitchins Tabernacle in Hitchins, Kentucky; New Life Fellowship in Russell, Kentucky; and Jeanettes Creek Christian Baptist Church in Franklin Furnace, Ohio. Whether behind the pulpit or leading a song, Larry's heart for ministry touched countless lives.
In addition to his calling in ministry, Larry dedicated many years of faithful service to the First National Bank of Grayson, where he retired as Branch Manager and Vice President of the Rush, Kentucky location. He was deeply involved in his community, managing fundraising efforts such as the Bike-a-Thon for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and campaigns for the American Cancer Society. He also served as a Notary Public and was a proud Kentucky Colonel.
Above all else, Larry loved his family fiercely. His greatest joy came from time spent with his wife, children, and grandson. He treasured family vacations, visits with his daughters and their families, and the simple blessings of gathering together. He found happiness in fishing, listening to music, attending church, and caring for animals. His gentle spirit, steady faith, and warm smile will be dearly missed.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Nancy Sue Tussey Ison; his daughters, Suetta (Jack) Coello and Melissa (John) DesMarais; his beloved grandson, Wyatt Finn Wolfe; his sister, DeLee (Ed) Porter; his brother-in-law, Bob (Linda) Tussey; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who mourn his passing and celebrate his life.
Graveside services will be held at East Carter County Memory Gardens, with the date and time to be announced at a later time. Malone Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the arrangements.
