Larry J. Iwema, Sr., 81, of St. Peters, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2023 with his wife Kathy by his side. He was born April 24, 1942 in Chicago, IL to the late John A. and Minnie Iwema.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathy; sons Larry J. Iwema, Jr. (Jay) and Jody T. Iwema ; and grandchildren Aaron and Bailey Iwema. Brother-in-law to Larry and Teresa Krotz, Larry and Beverly Welch and sister-in-law, Diane Iwema. Uncle to three nieces Cheryl Dorobek, Kimberly and Melissa Welch, one nephew Kent Iwema and numerous great nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his brother Rodney and nephew Darrell Iwema.
Upon graduation from Thornton Township High School in Harvey, IL, Larry enrolled in SIU in Carbondale, IL and later graduated from SIU in Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science and math. His work career as an IT specialist and in computer sales included Mallinckrodt Chemical, Olin Corporation in East Alton, IL, Hewlett-Packard Company, and Bausch & Lomb Surgical in St. Louis.
He was an avid golfer, loved to snow-ski and enjoyed boating and golfing at the Current River in Van Buren, MO. Other good times were spent with friends in Jefferson City and Lake of the Ozarks, visiting family in Chicago and Alton area and traveling on business trips to the Silicon Valley area. He could fix anything that needed to be repaired and remodeled two homes. He loved old cars and tinkering around on them. He was a perfectionist and loved to dance, especially the Electric Slide.
He will be greatly missed by his little dog Nikki, his wife Kathy and all his friends in Cottleville, Innsbrook, and across the St. Louis region.
A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, June 11th at Hutchens Stygar, 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Dr., St. Charles, MO from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. His wish was to be cremated and no burial planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Kidney Foundation or the Humane Society of Missouri or a charity of choice.
