"Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, His love endures forever." Psalm 136:1
We are saddened to announce the passing of Larry Reed Larsen on September 26, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in
Huntsville, AL on April 16, 1966.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 34 years, Lorie Wright Larsen; daughter, Sarah Larsen Babb (Brandon); son, William Wright Larsen; brother, John Christian Larsen; mother-in-law, Brenda Burks Wright; sister-in-law, Sharon Wright Meinhardt (John); nephew, Daniel Meinhardt (Ashley); and nieces, Anna Larsen, Katie Larsen, Maggie Larsen, and Liv Larsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Alan Larsen and Janet Reed Larsen, and father-in-law, Von O. Wright. Larry's love for his faith, family, and friends was abundant through all he did. He had special passions for fishing, golfing, and any activity in which his children participated. His children were his greatest joy. He was an active member of Mayfair Church of Christ.
Larry found great joy in spending time outdoors with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and thoroughly enjoyed spending time at his brother's farm with his brother, his children, and his nieces. Larry enjoyed researching and preparing recipes with his wife and children. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, specifically his grand-cats, and cared for them with great compassion.
A 1984 graduate of Huntsville High School, he went on to the University of Alabama and completed a degree in Civil Engineering in 1989. Larry had a successful career that was wide and varied throughout the years. He designed water tanks for Chicago Bridge and Iron before entering the world of government contracting, starting with Teledyne and completing his career with Parsons. He was able to travel the world doing work he loved with wonderful coworkers he considered family.
Larry fought a hard, decade-long battle against cancer. We would like to thank Dr. Phillip McGee of Clearview Cancer for leading the charge. Dr. McGee and his staff, especially his nurse Sara, worked endlessly to provide Larry and Lorie with the care and support to meet every challenge. We would also like to express our endless gratitude to Dr. Jim Smelser, Dr. Ingrid Roig, the wonderful nurses of Huntsville Hospital Home Care, the staff at Continuum Rx along with the hundreds of medical staff in Huntsville and Vanderbilt who never stopped taking such amazing care of him.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canines for Coping program through Huntsville Hospital. The dogs in the program, specifically Vivian, held such a special place in Larry's heart throughout this journey. (https://www.huntsvillehospitalfoundation.org/caninesforcoping)
