Larry Lerma made his grand entrance into this world on February 27, 1953 to his parents Demetrio Lerma Sr and wife Florinda in
Seminole, TX. He was one of six children. He met his "blonde-haired beauty" Lesa while working at Texas Aerospace and solidified the deal after strutting his stuff on stage and playing guitar. They just celebrated their 47th Anniversary on January 3rd. Larry was 70 years old, about to be 17 next month (not a typo, he was always young at heart) when he was called home by his Lord and Savior.
Although he lived many places since his birth, his "home" was in
Hamby, TX. This is where he raised his two children, Jason and Lori, among his tractors and wheat fields in area of land some referred to as Lerma-Ville. While in Hamby, he and family invented Travl-Tabl, and he was able to travel abroad, appear on Good Morning America, attend the Academy Awards, and meet many people. It was also in Hamby that Larry learned he was actually blessed with three children, instead of two, he had another daughter, Donna.
He would later become a ranch foreman at RII ranch, where he would welcome many more teenagers into his life since his kids had many friends and cousins that would come and visit often. His house was always full of laughter and crazy antics. Eventually he would return to the stage in country music bands, including Backroads, where he and his son played lead guitars with his future son-in-law on the bass. Later he worked as an electrician and finally settled down as a grandpa. He and Lesa moved to Canyon Lake 14 years ago and he was in charge of grand-parenting duties such as spoiling, the telling of tall-tales, and being a lovable rascal. His passion for music never waned. He would spend hours listening his grandsons play guitar and was essentially a fan/stalker when he discovered how to operate FaceTime. He absolutely loved his children, but he was at a loss for words of how much he loved his grandchildren. Without fail, he always gave hugs and reminded all his kiddos how much he loved them. He often would follow up with the question, "Do you know how much Daddy/Papa loves you?" His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he ensured that they knew it.
Within the last year, Larry was driven to return back to his home near Hamby. He had time to reconnect with family and friends and was genuinely happy to be back.
Larry was known for being a jack of all trades, cracking jokes, bottomless pit of a stomach, and having a huge sweet tooth. He loved his wife and family, fishing, fossil hunting, dumpster diving, and binge watching Sanford and Sons. He belonged to the lifetime clubs of Coca-Cola, Fudge bars, Circus Peanuts, Ramen, and corner store tamales. He was awarded the Best Snack Thief for consecutive years running, and highest honor achieved was being a Grand Pa.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Demetrio Lerma Sr, mother Florinda Lerma, and his brother Demetrio Lerma, Jr.
Larry Lerma is survived by his wife Lesa Lerma. His daughter Donna Manning and husband Michael, son Jason Lerma and wife Kristy, and daughter Lori Woodard and husband Levi. Grandchildren Larissa, Grant, and Macy Lerma, Brockston and Colsen Woodard, & Alexandra and Mason Manning. His sisters Linda Lopez, Cecelia Cloud, Janie Elskamp, and Aida Cloud; in addition to extended family, innumerable kids that felt like his own, and friends.
A memorial Service will be held in his honor on Friday January 26, 2024 at 11am at North's Funeral Home.
