Larry Luitjens Obituary

Everybody in South Dakota knew him as "Coach" or " Larry Legend." Larry Luitjens died peacefully on June 10, 2023, in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 81. Most will remember him as the winningest boys basketball coach in South Dakota history; however, it was his influence on others that will leave the most lasting impact.
In the book Larry Luitjens - A Coach of Influence, you will read story after story of people whose live were changed because of this man. He had an infectious smile and could make a complete stranger feel as though they were lifelong friends. As imporrtant as basketball was to him, the only name he liked being called better than Coach was Bapa. Brooke and Somer daughters of his son Lance and Renae Luitejns, were the joy of his life.
There will be a celebration of life for Larry in Custer at the high school armory on September 2, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Those in attendance will be encouraged to wear their high school colors, a jersey, or purple and gold. The event will be followed by a reception at the high school.
A memorial will be created in Larry's honor that will reflect his interests and passions.
