DOVER - Larry E. Matz, 79, of Dover Township, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 17, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Marva A. (Dries) Matz, with whom he shared 58 years of love and devotion.
Born on March 31, 1946, in Gilbertsville, PA, Larry was the son of the late George C. Matz and Dorothy E. (Oaks) Matz of Wrightsville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George C. Matz Jr. and Terry Matz, and a sister, Dolly F. (Matz) Rothenberger, all of York. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Charles H. Rothenberger of York.
Larry was a dedicated and loving father to three children: Tabitha J. (Matz) Baughman and her husband David L. Baughman III, Nikki B. (Matz) Jacobson and her husband Stephen C. Jacobson, and Larry E. Matz II and his wife Katie L. (Chronister) Matz, all of Dover. He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Stephanie M. Looks, Levi D. Looks, Stephen T. Jacobson, Frankie D. Looks, Tyler J. Jacobson, Mickyle D. Looks, Claire M. Matz, Franklin D. Looks III, and Samuel J. Matz, all of Dover. His legacy continues through his seven great-grandchildren.
After graduating from Boyertown High School in 1964, Larry enlisted in the United States Army Reserves, proudly serving his country from 1966 to 1971. During his service, he gained valuable skills that would shape and support his career for the rest of his life. He earned a Certificate in the Fundamentals of Design from Pennsylvania State University in 1970, followed by a Journeyman's Certificate from Textile Machinery Apprenticeship Program as a Machinist in 1971, and later in life he acquired a Tool & Die Maker Certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry in 1989. He worked for Danskin in York for 12 years before continuing his career with Keltrol Enterprises, Inc. of York where he remained for 30 years until his retirement in 2021.
Larry was active in his community and spent several years coaching basketball for St. John's Lutheran Church. He had a deep love for music that spanned across all genres and was able to share that passion with his kids. Along with music he was an avid supporter of Philadelphia sports teams, always cheering on the Eagles and the Phillies. Above all, Larry treasured time with his family and found special joy in visits from a beloved dog, Fancy, whose presence always brought a smile to his face.
Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
