Larry Miller Obituary

Larry Miller, 77

Larry Charles Miller, age 77, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away in Post Falls on December 24, 2025. He was born on June 27, 1948, in Allegan, Michigan, to the late Ralph and June Miller. Larry grew up in Plainwell, Michigan, and later attended Michigan State University. On August 19, 1972, he married the love of his life, Charlene (Croswell), and together they built a life rooted in family and community. Larry served his country in the United States Army, proudly completing his service from December 1969 through November 1970. Following his military service, he began a long and meaningful career with the Idaho Department of Fish & Game, working as a Conservation Officer from 1978 to 2003. He also served as a Hunter Education Instructor, sharing his knowledge, safety values, and deep respect for the outdoors with younger generations. Many in the community will remember him as a dedicated Little League baseball coach who encouraged every child to do their best. Larry was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, snowmobiling, and riding ATVs. He was a member of several organizations, including the Elks and the NRA, and he valued fellowship, friendship, and time spent around a campfire with those he loved. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Miller of Rathdrum, and his children Justin and Melissa Miller, and Kyle and Tara Miller, all of Rathdrum. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Taylan, Haley, Karsyn, Taylor, Emma, Ryan, Paige, and CeCe. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and June Miller, and his siblings, Linda Holmes and Lee Miller. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward. Larry will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the lives he guided, and the countless moments shared in the great outdoors he cherished so deeply. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in peace.

A Funeral Service will be held for Larry on January 02, 2026 at 11:00 am at Bell Tower Funeral Home. 3398 E. Jenalan Ave. Post Falls, ID 83854.

December 30, 2025

Char and family, I am far away from Idaho as I write this and wish Carolyn and I could attend, even if only to ride shotgun with Larry one last time.

As wardens whose careers overlapped for three years, we worked like that on a few memorable occasions (for some reason him driving and me his happily captive audience). As wardens, we took pride and we're efficient in working alone, but Larry was different that way; he was always gregarious and happy. On these drives to places like the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene, he proudly gave me updates about his family and he smiled broadly as he did so. He made these long trips into the back country memorable and fun.

He was deeply invested in friendships and the connection that brings and my one regret is that I didn't act on his offers to get together over a cup of Joe or a beer. My lame excuse was that we lived 50 miles apart.

I miss him now and that opportunity, and carry that one lesson with me-always find the time to sit with people who offer a cup, or a stein, or a glass of water, it's perhaps the holiest thing you can do in life. Larry helped teach me that. And once again, I am too far away.

I'm a slow learner Larry but I'll carry our friendship and your memory as long as I can. Like the song says, you're not heavy.

Cheers old friend! tw
