Larry Keith Morris of Lexington, husband to Jayne Morris, met our Lord on Saturday, February 15th at his home in Richmond, KY. Larry is survived by two sisters; Kathleen Sullivan (Paul) and Sharon Martin. He is also survived by four children; Keith Brewster (Tiffany), Holly Morris, Christy Beatty (Orintheal), and Laura McHugh (John). Grandchildren are Shaye Brewster, Sheidler Beatty, Kashtyn Beatty, Bennett McHugh, and Norah McHugh. He is also survived by one beloved aunt, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Larry was born in
Lexington, KY on June 12, 1946, to William Lawrence Morris and Virginia Jamison Morris, both of whom preceded him. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School in Lexington and enjoyed attending reunions and reconnecting with his classmates. After graduation in 1964, he enlisted in the Air Force. Basic training was in Biloxi, Mississippi and he was eventually sent to Goose Bay, Labrador where he received training and education in radar. His next assignment was in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned to Lexington.
Larry was an avid car enthusiast and participated in recreational racing in his early years. Larry's love of cars and driving carried over throughout his life, having been employed as a mechanic at Quantrell Auto Group, working his way up to Volvo lead sales manager throughout his 25-year tenure. Larry received many awards throughout his time at Quantrell and proudly kept them on display at his home. After retiring and moving to Richmond, he began working for Bluegrass Transportation, which provided him the ability to travel across the country. He visited many states in his years with the company and relished the opportunity for solo travel.
One of his favorite pastimes since 1973 was playing poker with his "Bicycle Club" buddies every other Wednesday night.
Visitation is at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home at Harrodsburg Road in Lexington, on Friday, February 21st, from 4 pm to 7 pm. A short service will be held on Saturday, February 22nd, at 10 am. Internment will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville on Monday, February 24th, at 10 am.
