Larry Peck Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGeehan Funeral Homes Keck-Coleman Chapel on Dec. 10, 2025.
Larry Earl Peck, 85, of St. Johns, died peacefully at home on December 9, 2025, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease.
Born February 22, 1940, in St. Johns, Larry was the youngest of four children to Earl and Naomi (Rice) Peck. After losing his mother at the age of 13, Larry grew even closer to his older siblings, a bond that remained throughout their lives. He graduated from Rodney B. High School in 1958 and, following in the footsteps of his family, proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1958 to 1964. Larry had a deep connection to his service-he loved Veteran's Day events, talking with fellow veterans, reminiscing about his Navy days, and was rarely seen without his beloved Navy hat.
On December 23, 1961, Larry married the love of his life, Joanne Trombley, at the Congregational Church in St. Johns. Together they raised four children and built a life centered on hard work, devotion, and family.
Larry worked more than twenty years as a foreman at Federal-Mogul before moving with Joanne to Ely, Nevada, where they spent 23 years. There he worked as a ranch hand for his father-in-law and in the gold mines with his son. They returned home to St. Johns in 2012 to be closer to family.
Quiet, steady, and deeply dependable, Larry was the patriarch everyone could count on. He had a strong work ethic-something he passed proudly to his children. He kept a small hobby farm over the years and enjoyed tending crops and animals. Larry loved hunting and fishing with his son, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling in Arizona. After retirement, he found great joy in woodworking. He loved seeing the pieces he crafted, teeter-totters, picnic tables, rocking horses, and more, fill the homes of his children and grandchildren.
Above all, Larry was family-oriented and immensely proud of his family; especially his beloved wife of nearly sixty-four years, Joanne; his son, Jeff (Alice); daughters Kelly (Tim) Williams and Rebecca (the late David) Arambula; son-in-law Jerry Ritz; grandchildren, Kirk (Taryn) Williams, Jaclyn (Nate) Love, Thomas "Trey" Williams, Michael Ritz, Amber Baker, Jacob (Morgan) Ritz, and Shawn (Tabatha) Arambula; great-grandchildren Evie, Alivia, London, Cameron, Hayley, Noah, Bryant, Kaylin, Ethan, Braelyn, Grayson, Jace and one on the way. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sandy Ritz; and his siblings Raymond Peck, Betty Creaser, and Virginia Probst.
A Memorial Service and Military Honors will be held at McGeehan Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 11 AM. Friends may visit the funeral home on Monday from 10AM until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Elara Caring Hospice or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I remember Larry, and the description of him is exactly how I remember him. My name was Gayla Perry, and I graduated the same year as Larry. He obviously continued his life a very good family man and has a terrific family. God Bless you all, and so sorry for your loss. But, I feel I need to add, it seems Larry had a very good, full life, and I know that dementia can be devastating. I have seen this twice.
