Larry Pharr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Jun. 4, 2025.
Larry Clayton Pharr A beacon of faith and kindness, Larry Clayton Pharr passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at the age of 76 in Evansville, Indiana. Born on January 16, 1949, in Statesville, North Carolina, Larry's life was a testament to a man of God who heeded the Holy Spirit's call within him to dedicate his life to be a minister of the gospel, a ministry that would define his life.
Larry was the beloved son of Mary Ella and Robert Pharr and grew up surrounded by the values of faith, hard work, and devotion to family-principles that guided him throughout his life. He was one of six siblings in a close-knit and spirited family. Larry shared deep bonds with each of them: his eldest brother, Delbert (Nancy); his sister, Dorothy (Pete Privette) and Alfred (Marilyn); his brothers, Bobby (Elizabeth), Gene (Bobbi-Jean), and Michael (Karen). While several of his siblings and their spouses have since passed, the strength of those relationships and the love they shared remained a constant source of pride and joy in Larry's life.
After attending Tennessee Temple Bible College, Larry's life became forever intertwined with that of his beloved wife, Becky. Together, they built a life rooted in ministry and mutual support, touching countless lives through their shared commitment to faith and community.
Professionally, Larry dedicated many years to his work as a Terminal Manager in North Carolina. He later moved to Evansville, where he continued in the same role for another three and a half decades. Simultaneously, while working as a Terminal Manager, Larry committed himself to forty-seven years of preaching and pastoral work. Serving eighteen years as the assistant pastor at God's Way Church in Evansville. All through the years, many expressed their gratitude for the deep inner healing ministry. He gave unselfishly, staying up all night with those in need until they received what they needed from God. Known for his strong work ethic and quiet leadership, Larry left a lasting impression on his colleagues and the industry at large.
Larry's passion for life extended far beyond the workplace. He and Becky found joy in ministering to others, a calling sparked during their Bible college years. He also had a deep love for plants-including some exotic varieties. A gifted wood carver, Larry's artistry brought beauty into the world and joy to those fortunate enough to witness his craft. His creations were not merely objects, but lasting expressions of his generous and gentle spirit.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Becky, and their children: Joseph Pharr, and his twin brother Jonathan Pharr, who went to be with the Lord four years ago; Angie (Chris) Hilton; and Clay (Beverly)Pharr. His legacy continues through his grandchildren-Zachry (Ashley) Schanmier, Nichole (Zac) Marshall, and Augustus Pharr-and his great-grandchildren: Ryan, Parker, Raelyn, Marissa, and the eagerly awaited Chase-Elliot. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, many dear friends, and all those whose lives were better because of his presence.
Described by those who knew him as faith-filled, loving, and kind, Larry, was one who loved the Lord Jesus with all his might-extending Jesus's Love to everyone he met. He walked through life with a gentle strength that drew others to him and inspired them to be their best selves.
Larry Clayton Pharr's story does not end with his passing. It lives on in the hearts of those he loved, the communities he served, and the beautiful works he left behind. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing his spirit will continue to guide and uplift us-just as it did throughout his extraordinary life.
Visitation will be Monday June 9th from 10am to 11am with funeral service at 11am at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, with burial to immediately follow. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Larry, please visit our floral store.

Larry and Becky have touched so many in their ministry. I know they were such a blessing to me. I loved how he taught the Bible! But mostly Larry cared so much for people! He showed love and compassion to all! He was truly a man of God! Cheryl Camp

Such a great man of God. He was so intimate with the Lord, so gentle in his interactions with others. And his words from the Lord were always so accurate, always exhibiting the heart of our heavenly Father. Larry will be missed on earth, but Heaven rejoices at his arrival. My prayers of peace, comfort, strength, joy, love, fond memories, and celebration of his very full life are with his wife, Becky, and his loved ones.
