Larry John Priebe, age 85, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin. Larry was born on July 8, 1939, in Superior, Wisconsin, to John and Lila (Walker) Priebe. He grew up in Hannaford, North Dakota and graduated from Hannaford High School in 1957. In 1962, Larry graduated from Minot State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Following graduation, Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1962 and served our country until his honorable discharge in 1964. On June 6, 1964, Larry was united in marriage to Connie Fae Hedin at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dickinson, North Dakota. In 1969, the family moved to Austin where Larry worked at Austin Public Schools as a social studies teacher until his retirement in 1999. During this time Larry served in the Army National Guard. He was a dedicated teacher who loved kids and enjoyed coaching track. He helped with event management for high school sports for many years and enjoyed golfing and bowling. Larry was also a big fan of the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Wild. He was active at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and in the community. He volunteered at church for many years, helped with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity, and was part of the American Legion Honor Guard for many years. Most of all, Larry loved his family. He was a big supporter of his grandchildren and attended as many of their events as he could. He will be greatly missed.
Larry is survived by his wife, Connie Priebe; sons, Monte (Pam) Priebe and Ted (Leslie) Priebe; grandchildren, Lincoln, Laura, Sean (MacKenzie), Danielle, and Nicole; great-granddaughter, Mathilda; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lila; son, Jamie; and brother Alan (Evelyn) Priebe.
The family extends a thank you to the Sacred Heart Care Center staff for their wonderful care of Larry. An extra special thank you to the activities staff for the joy they brought Larry.
The funeral service for Larry will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Legion Post 91 or Sacred Heart Care Center. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
