Larry Smith Obituary

Larry Smith

October 17, 1939 - April 18, 2025

Larry Thomas Smith, 85, of Walbridge, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Oregon, Ohio. Born on October 17, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, Larry lived a life marked by dedication, quiet strength, and a deep sense of responsibility.

A proud graduate of Lake High School in Walbridge, Class of 1957, Larry went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. His time in the military instilled in him a strong work ethic and discipline that would guide him throughout his life.

Following his honorable service, Larry embarked on a civilian career with the Nevada State Highway Patrol in Reno. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become Fleet Manager-a role that suited his meticulous nature and attention to detail. His colleagues respected him for his reliability and professionalism, and his contributions left a lasting impact on the department.

Larry was an avid reader with a lifelong passion for western novels. In his later years, he embraced technology with enthusiasm-exploring online AI platforms and indulging his curiosity through Amazon shopping. These interests reflected not only his adaptability but also his enduring desire to learn and engage with the world around him.

He is survived by his son, Dean Patrick Smith of Nevada; and his step-son, Rick Korecki of Pennsylvania. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, nephews, and nieces who will remember him with affection.

In recent years, Larry devoted himself to caring for his beloved wife, Donna, during her final chapter. Her passing in November, 2024, was a profound loss. On April 18-the morning of her birthday-Larry passed away peacefully. The timing brought comfort to those who knew how deeply connected they were.

A graveside service for both Donna and Larry will be held at Lake Township Cemetery on Walbridge Road in Walbridge, Ohio, on June 20, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather at a local restaurant afterward to share memories and celebrate Larry's life.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

I called Larry grandpa, I was one of several of his beautiful daughter-in-law´s. I am so glad that he was a big part of my life. We both had so much fun together. We gardened for days on end and as everybody has had to do with him we moved rocks everywhere. It´s kind of a family joke lol. he was the best grandpa to My Son. The moment he met my son jacques (Grandson)his heart almost burst with so much love. There wasn´t a thing thing grandpa couldn´t do. I watched him build tables, planters you name it. I watched him fix cars , building a home. There was nothing grandpa couldn´t do. There was a time I got in trouble (speeding ticket ) and I dropped grandpa`s name and I got out of it. Kind of cool thing. lol grandpa always took such good care of his first wife Anne Quey aka Grandma he always set her up with the best of the best and treated her like the Cajun queen that she was. Grandpa loved his kids. He was proud of them. Grandpa is a man of integrity and dignity and love. I am so glad that grandpa was able to spend the end of his life with Donna. She was such a beautiful woman. I love her. She inspired me to always want to take better care of myself. I will forever love you and you will always be in my heart and if you have any connection on the other side to hook me up with winning lottery numbers, that would be cool. See you on the other side, grandpa.

I used to take care of his love Donna. I would visit Larry frequently because I knew he needed company just to sit and chat or bring him over his favorite salad from Bob Evan´s. He was a very very Kong and loving person that´s why him and Donna´s were made for each other. I will truly miss him. Ty Larry and Donna for being the kind souls you were. They used to call me Bert lol. Roberta

Judy & I are sad to see Larry pass. I´ll never forget riding with him in the `59 Chevvy convertible with the top down right after Christmas to exchange presents we got from Uncle Leo. With the stuffed alligator riding on the boot top. Rest in peace cousin.

Dad,
Thank you for being the constant in my life-my guide, my strength, and my safe place. Your tough love shaped who I am, and your wisdom stays with me in everything I do.
I will carry your memory with me every day and honor you in the way I live. I love you more than words can say. Always.
your son, Dean

Living in Limetree for over 20 years I was friends with Larry and Donna. Spent many hours talking with them both. He was so good to Donna and seeing to her needs. I will always cherish those memories.
