With deep love and heavy hearts, we share the passing of Larry Robert Tomlin, who left this world peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 16th, 2025, at the Evergreen Hospice House in
Albany, Oregon. He was born on June 27th, 1944, in Portland, Oregon, to Robert and Jean Tomlin, and from the beginning brought warmth, humor, and quiet strength into the lives of those around him.
Larry grew up in Portland, attended local schools, and graduated from Madison High School. After graduation, he continued his education at the University of Oregon before proudly answering the call to serve his country. Larry spent three dedicated years in the U.S. Army as an SP5/E5, earning both an Expert Rifle Badge and a Good Conduct Medal-testaments to his discipline, honor, and steady character.
After his military service, Larry poured his energy into building a meaningful life in the civilian world. He owned and operated J&J Electric, an electrical and lighting store that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to helping others. Larry was the kind of man who worked tirelessly, not for praise, but because he believed in doing things the right way. He continued working until he no longer could, a reflection of both his dedication and his quiet resilience.
In his brief retirement, Larry found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life-time spent with his family and pets, losing himself in action movies, attending exercise classes, and savoring the daily routines that brought comfort and connection. He cherished the people he loved and made sure they knew it.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Marjorie; their son, Tim Smith; and his two brothers, Steve Tomlin and Jim Marquis. He is also lovingly remembered and reunited in spirit with his son David Smith, who passed before him.
Those who knew Larry will remember his kindness, his sense of humor, his soft-spoken strength, and the quiet way he made life better for the people around him. He touched many hearts and will be deeply missed.
"The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind."
