Age 78, formerly of Berwyn and Oak Park, Illinois, and most recently of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.

Born on April 9, 1947, in Oak Park, Lawrence Lee was a son of George and Marion (Lubben) Voss. He was raised in Berwyn and graduated high school with the Class of 1965. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served for two years. A Vietnam Veteran, Larry served in the infantry and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery.

Following his honorable service, Larry worked for many years as a janitor with the Naperville School District. He later married the love of his life, Cheryl Kackert, and together they began a wonderful life’s journey.

Larry was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he found strength, support, and community. He enjoyed spending time outdoors—whether fishing on a quiet morning or heading out for a hunt. He also loved reading novels and watching classic westerns, especially the old favorites that brought him comfort.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl; children: Dustin John Voss, and Kathy Jo (Voss) Smith; two grandchildren: Jada Marie Smith and Brianna Jo Smith; three siblings: Bills Voss, Andrew Voss, and Donna Veeneman; brother in law, Steve Veeneman; sister in law, Jane Voss.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, children: Cory Allen Voss, and James Smith; his youngest brother, George Beverly Voss.
