It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Larry Joe Whitten. Born on the 6th of April, 1958, Larry lived a life full of humor, generosity, and passion for helping others before his peaceful departure on January 20, 2025. A truly talented and witty individual, Larry was a beacon of light in the community of Alamo, Tennessee where he resided.
Larry was the proud owner of Larry Whitten Plumbing & Electric for over 48 years, a business that became an institution in Alamo. Beyond his professional life, Larry was a devoted member of the Lions Club, a Volunteer Fire Fighter, and a cherished Little League Baseball coach. Larry deeply enjoyed entertaining people with his funny and captivating stories, as well as traveling and merrymaking. His generosity was legendary; from hosting numerous fundraisers and fish fry's to roofing homes for those in need. Larry's deeds did not go unnoticed, with Crockett County naming January 7th 'Larry Whitten Day' in his honor. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Larry embodied this sentiment throughout his life.
Larry's love extended to his family, who were the most important part of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie Whitten; his son, Wesley Whitten (Jessica); his daughter, Bridget King (Bobby Morgan); his siblings, Edward Whitten (Kim), Jane Whitten, and Ola McDonald; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaylee and Joseph Whitten. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Azlean Whitten, and his brother, Neal Garrett.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to N.O.A.H in honor of Larry.
In keeping with Larry's wishes, no services will be held at this time. Cremation services are under the direction of Ronk Funeral Home. Larry's joyous spirit, his laughter, and his love for people will always be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. We invite those who knew Larry to share their memories and upload photos of him to the memorial page, to keep his spirit alive in our hearts. Larry's legacy of love, laughter, and service will undoubtedly continue to inspire us all.

Jeannie, Bridget, Wesley and Family, I am so deeply saddened by this news. Larry will truly be missed by all, although I didn't get to know Larry as much as I would have liked to, he was there at my Mom Betty's funeral service, and I will always appreciate his kind words and sense of humor. I will never forget he came to see me when I was "sort" of put in jail for running away to Tennessee. We laughed, and he made me feel welcome in Almo. "Thanks Larry for the comic books". My Love & Prayers are sent to you all. Renee Gilchrist

Dear Jeannie and family...please know we are so sorry for you loss of beloved Larry. He was such a treasure of stories and so dedicated to helping others. I can just imagine him and daddy in heaven taking care of any electrical needs just give them a tester light .....my dad loved him and they had great memories together. Prayers up at such a difficult time.
