LARRY WAYNE YOUNG, 77, of Piedmont, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 surrounded by his family. Born in Cherokee County, AL, he was one of thirteen children born to Samuel Edward and Velma Colley Young, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by seven siblings.
Mr. Young was a member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, the American Legion, Lozahatchee Lodge, Shriners, “The Hollow Stump Hoggers”, Jack’s Round Table, and a 22-year member of Minter Memorial Open. He was involved in his community and loved having fun, never failing to make someone laugh. He was an avid Alabama Fan who got to enjoy the SEC Championship game on Saturday. He was in the AL Army National Guard for 20 years and was in the construction business and proficient in building or repair.
Survivors include his wife: Alice Crook Young; daughter: Misty (Chris) Shell; son: Chris (Abby) Young; brothers: Arnold (Mara) Young, and Lee Young; sisters: Josephine Young, Helen Reedy, and Kay Anderson; grandchildren: Hannah Brown, Kayla (Gage) Whiteside, Hailey Brown, Ryker Young, River Young, Michael (Kayla) Shell, and Austin Shell; great grandchildren: Everhett Whiteside, Asher Whiteside, Bentley Shell, Korbin Shell, and Kaysen Shell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from Dansby Heritage Chapel with visitation from 12 – 2 p.m. Rev. Bob Staggs and Rev. Jerry Pike will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Shell, Gage Whiteside, Jeromy watts, Scott Minter, Chad Minter, and Jonathan Jackson. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Dansby Heritage Chapel.
