Larry Wayne Young, a beacon of joy and strength, completed his extraordinary journey on Earth on December 18, 2025. Born on October 10, 1950, in
Lapeer, Michigan, Larry's life was a testament to the power of positivity, and the impact one individual can have on the world around them. He shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Sherry, for 55 years, and together they raised a family that became his pride and joy. His legacy lives on through his daughter, Kammi (Mike) Berens, his sister Diane Hermann, his cherished grandchildren Abbey (Nate) and Gabe (Felipe), and his adored great-grandchildren Klayton and Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Elaine, brothers Robert, Glenn, and Sam.
Larry's life was one of service and dedication. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped much of his later commitments. As a founding member of the Lapeer Chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America #2817, he channeled his experiences into positive action, advocating for veterans and their families. His passion for service was further exemplified through his active involvement in the Marine Corp Toys for Tots campaign, bringing joy to countless children during the holiday season.
Beyond his service, Larry was a man of diverse interests. He had an eye for beauty, captured through his love of photography. His zest for life was contagious, and he found great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing stories and laughter that will echo through generations. Larry's love for tractors and travel led him on many adventures, including a memorable trip along Route 66 and fulfilling a dream by attending the Little League Playoffs.
Larry was the embodiment of kindness, humor, and generosity. His presence would light up a room, and his laughter was the melody that set the rhythm of any gathering. He had the rare ability to turn strangers into friends, and friends into family. He lived by the words of Helen Keller, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all," and indeed, Larry's life was a daring adventure filled with love, friendship, and unforgettable moments.
