Larry Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller Funeral Home from Jan. 15 to Jan. 16, 2026.
Mr. Larry D. Young , a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated driver, has embarked on his final journey, passing away peacefully on January 13, 2026. Known as "Too Tall" to many and "Paw Paw' to his family, he spent over 54 years behind the wheel, ensuring goods reached their destinations.

Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Larry had an exciting life growing up as military brat. He wanted to continue exploring, so he found his calling on the open road, a life he embraced with passion and skill, accumulating millions of safe miles across the country. He taught us that "if you can drive a stick shift, you' ll never be stranded," a lesson in resilience that extended beyond the cab into all aspects of his life. He enjoyed working in his yard and sitting out in his man cave listening to music. He could fix anything, tell the funniest stories, and his presence filled any room, much like the rumble of his engine.

He was a pillar of strength and a mentor to new drivers, and to his wife, whom he taught how to drive so she could be his sidekick driver. His motto was "Do as I say , not as I do. " He was a man who valued family above all else, always making sure there was something extra for the holidays or a new tool in the garage.

He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 40 years, Brenda Jean Leonard and his daughters and sons in law, Kimberly Young and Justin Harper, of Dallas, GA and Kristy & Christopher Keever, of Tallapoosa, GA. His 11 grandchildren include, Brad Brooks, Benny Harrison, Mason Gaylor, Karson Finnell, Bryanna Lawhorn, Ansley Ellis, Kinsey Keever, Mallory Keever, Brenen Keever, Alyssa Keever, and Everly Rose Keever. He also leaves behind 4 great- grandchildren: Emma Gaylor, Alexis Gaylor, Byleigh Harrison, Aria Harrison, with one more on the way. He is also survived by three sisters, Doris Steel, Jan Skidmore, and Joann Beitz and his lifelong best friend, Phil Grant- who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Raymond Young; his mother, Lela Mai Jones; and his daughter, Krissy Dolan.

A memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy will be held at The Refuge Ministries of West Georgia on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 2:00PM.
