Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - Dawn Carr entered eternal rest on Wednesday February 18, 2026 at the age of 75, following a hospitalization at Aiken Regional Medical Center. Dawn was born on October 31, 1950 in Martin, South Dakota to parents Richard J. Bass and Barbara Jean Hodson. She was raised in Aiken, South Carolina and graduated from Aiken High School in 1968. She received her nursing degree from South Georgia State College in 1970 and dedicated her professional life to helping children while working as a pediatric nurse for Sandhills Pediatrics in Columbia, South Carolina for more than 35 years. She was married to Jim Carr in 1971, and the couple lived together in Columbia, Lexington, and Hilton Head Island until Jim's passing in September 2022. Dawn is survived by her two sons, Patrick W. Carr (Starr) of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Brian C. Carr of Columbia, South Carolina, and her two sisters, Joanne Brown (Walter) of Kingstree, South Carolina and Janet Bass of Aiken, South Carolina, and her grandson, James Patrick (JP) Carr of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, plus many nieces and nephews and in-laws. Funeral arrangements are handled by Keith Funeral Home at 63 Arrow Road in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29928 (843-715-4584) (keithfuneral.com). There will be a public graveside service on Friday, February 27, 2026 beginning at 1:00 PM at Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island.
