Laura Bell Green was born on March 5, 1936, to George Hubbard, Jr “Boy” and Sarah Lawery in the Kansas Community on the outskirts of Gurdon, Arkansas. She was raised by her bonus father, Sherman “Doc” Dickens, Sr. who adopted her at age one. She accepted Christ at a young and grew up in Providence AME Church in Kansas. After graduating from Bell High School, she attended Grambling State University. She later united with Muldrew Chapel. At the age of seventeen she married Raymond Green, Sr., and their union was blessed with eleven children. They we married for 39 years until his passing on June 4, 1992.

Laura Bell was a part of that generation that counted motherhood as a virtue because mothers knew the difference between a house and home. Laura’s “golden” accomplishment in life was to make a loving home that would produce a tapestry of memories her family would forever cherish. She was that warm hand on a cold morning; that voice of wisdom and reason when the world was upside-down; that vessel of hope that carried loved ones and friends safely across rivers of change in their lives.

She loved listening to the blues and gospel music. She had a humongous heart and would take anyone in for a meal or just a place to lay their head. She loved cooking and her home was often the gathering place for family get-togethers and just a casual “stop-by” to say hello.

Throughout her life she maintained ties to her family, loved ones and enthusiastically arts and crafts. She enjoyed the simple pleasures that life offered her while living a full and wholesome life.

She passed on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Baptist Heath Medical Center in Arkadelphia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her bonus father, Sherman “Doc” Dickens, Sr.; husband, Raymond Green, Sr., (1992), her son, Steven Green (October 9, 2015); her daughter, Stacy Green Muhammad (January 6, 2018); two brothers, Charles Dickens and Oliver Hubbard; one sister, Mary Broomfield; three grandchildren, Calvin Lashawn Brown, III. (2000), Keenon and Lillian Hatley (2010).

Her love will live on forever in the hearts of her children, Myra (Dorsey) Henry of Gurdon, AR, Raymond (Mary) Green, Jr., of Arkadelphia, AR, Lori Green (John Simmons) of Gurdon, AR, Aundra (Hermon) Leeper of Curtis, Donnie Green of Gurdon, Kathy Green (Julius Golden) of Gurdon, AR, L.J. Green of Gurdon, AR, Carla Green (Kelvin Gulley) of Gurdon and Latasha Accor (Bernard Hatley) of Gurdon, AR; twenty-seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves sisters, Shirley Dickens, Oneda Beavers and Clea Stephens all of Gurdon, AR and brothers, David Dickens of Gurdon, AR and Horrace Hubbard of Rockford, IL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, her special friends Jerine Hatley, Mary Louise Cook and Mary Helen Dickens.

A walk-through visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. We ask that you do not linger; please pay your respects and leave so others may have the chance to enter the funeral home. A celebration of her life will be shared at the Pavilion at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Delton Simpson, eulogist. Interment will be at Sweet Home Cemetery in Prescott, Arkansas.

The active pallbearers will be Kenneth Jones, her grandson and great-grandsons.
