Obituary of Laura Jean Peterson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Jean Peterson on November 19, at the age of 58, after a brief illness. Laura was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and teacher who kept us all laughing in both her personal and professional lives.
Laura was born on April 22, 1966 to Mary and Roger Swanson. She grew up on the East Side of St. Paul with her parents and three siblings. She was always an apt student and graduated from Hill Murray in 1984. She went on to complete her undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota and eventually received her Masters in Education at Argosy University in 2007. She was a resident of Hugo, Minnesota since 1991. Her only child, Samuel Peterson, was born in 1993.
Through her work in Radiation Therapy at Argosy University, she adopted her two dogs, Ruby and Max. Her little dog Mimi (who went by many silly names) joined later. Laura enjoyed a successful career as a Radiation Therapist and eventually a professor on the subject, culminating in a position as Program Director of Radiation Therapy at St. Catherine University. After work, she enjoyed relaxing at home with her puppies, watching Sex and the City and Friends, and trying new foods at many restaurants (though she was often unimpressed).
Laura was preceded in death by her father, Roger Swanson, and her two beloved dogs, Ruby and Max. She is survived by her son, Samuel Peterson, mother Mary Swanson, siblings Daniel Swanson, Karen Rockeman, and Amy Swanson, four nieces and nephews, and her dog Mimi. She will be remembered always with love by her family, colleagues, and countless former students and mentees.
Her memorial service will remain private with only close family and friends.

This was sad and shocking news. My office was a couple doors down the hall from Laura´s. My heart goes out to all who were touched by her passing.

I was so shocked and sad to hear of Lauras passing. She was one of my teachers/professors at Argosy University in Radiation Therapy and she was great! Always had a smile on her face, so pleasant. She was a lot of fun, we could get her laughing in class. She was a bright spot in our day.
I will keep her family in my thoughts and prayers Rest in peace Laura. You were one in a million. I'll never forget you.

I worked with Laura a short time at St. Joseph´s Hospital. She will be the first to admit that she was hard to work with but after having Sam she was a different person. She was truly happy. Then we met up again at Argosy University. There I truly fell in love with her and with so much respect. She was so amazing as a teacher and mentor and I am happy to say friends. We went to several conferences together and we had so much fun (we learned a lot too, just for the record ). Funny and smart she was!! Tough but kind.
So hard to process this, Laura you are missed!!
