Laura Anne Roberts, affectionately known as Laurie by family and friends, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Laurie was born on March 31, 1970, in Rock Hill, the daughter of Kay Carnes Cauthen, and the late William Walter Roberts (Bill). Laurie attended Rock Hill High and Winthrop University where she received a Bachelor of Arts which led to an artist-in-residence with an emphasis on pottery at Spirit Square in Charlotte, NC.
In 1995 Laurie joined the family business selling cemetery plots at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens. She became a licensed funeral director in 1997 and started working with her mother at Wolfe Funeral Home in Fort Mill. She became manager of the funeral home in 2001. Laurie and her mother, Kay Cauthen, formed a dynamic mother-daughter duo that passionately served many families in the Fort Mill area during their times of need.
Laurie's artistic talent and creativity carried over too many aspects of her life. She loved cooking for family and friends, gardening, and traveling with her best friend, Mark Paterno. Her caring and generous spirit was evident to all who met her.
Laurie is survived by her parents Kay and Hazel (Pawpaw) Cauthen of Lancaster, her stepmother Linda Baird Roberts of Carolina Shores, NC, her godparents Ted and Barbara Richardson of Spartanburg, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Roberts (2021), and her best friend, Mark Paterno who passed away on July 24, 2024.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, August 14, at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens in Rock Hill. Pastor Tony Caruso will officiate the service. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
