It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Laura Gail (Reid) Saunders, affectionately known to many as "Gamma" on June 16, 2024, at the age of 72. Gail was born on November 5, 1951, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and remained a life-long resident of the area. This is what we would like posted, if possible.
A woman of great kindness and warmth, Gail devoted her life to her family and the wellbeing of others. She found joy in life's simple things, loved spending time with her cherished grandchildren, cuddling and nurturing all the children she helped take care of, and will be remembered for her self-less nurturing spirit.
Gail is survived by her loving daughter, Lorrie (Christi) Fortson; her adored grandchildren, William Henry Fortson and Morgann Hutchinson; and her treasured great-granddaughter Noelle Lee Fortson. She is also survived by her brother Chuck Reid, her sister-in-law Cyndie Reid, her sister Terri Reid, her Aunt Clara Williford, Aunt Mary Huckabee, her Uncle Robert Reid and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Gail was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald John Saunders, and her parents, Fred and Pat Reid.
Gail never enjoyed the limelight and never wanted to be the center of attention. Her family will honor her wish and have a private family celebration in the future to honor her memory, exchange stories and remember how special she was to all of us. Our hearts are heavy, but we take comfort in knowing that her legacy of love will live on in everyone who knew her and we know her precious soul is now at peace. Thank you for all who have expressed condolences during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity that Gail supported, Bracelets4George that helps support children with Williams Syndrome and CDH. Contributions can be made online at https://www.bracelets4george.com/.
