Laurence Loeschen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 14, 2025.
Funeral service for Laurence R. Loeschen will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Burt Presbyterian Church in Burt, IA, with a luncheon immediately following the service. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Titonka, IA, with military honors conducted. Visitation with family will start at 10 am till the time of the funeral service.
Laurence Richard Loeschen was born at home on the farm near Woden on November 11, 1934, to Albert and Ellen (Stuehrenberg) Loeschen. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Laurence welcomed his brother Neal 5 years later. He attended school at Titonka and graduated high school in 1952.
After working for a plumber in Woden for a year, Laurence joined the Army in 1953. The Army sent him to Camp Atterbury in Indiana for two rounds of basic training to get them in shape for his assignment, mountain climbing. His first paycheck from the Army was $56 a month. He proudly served in Company G, 61 Infantry Regiment at Camp Carson, Colorado Springs. The PFC was honorably discharged in 1955.
Upon returning home from the service, he started farming with his father. One night he went to the movies in Forest City and met a young lady, Violet Thompson. They eventually married on June 7, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City.
After a honeymoon in Colorado Springs, they moved into an old farmhouse near Woden and started farming, milking cows, raising pigs, growing corn, soybeans, oats and hay. In 1968, the Holsteins were replaced with Black Angus cattle and then eventually Red Angus and South Devon. At times he was working a second job at Snap-On Tools and then Winnebago Industries.
He retired from it all in 2000, except for his cattle. A few could be found grazing around the buildings well into retirement.
Laurence loved the Lord and became born again in Jesus. He witnessed and prayed for others whenever he could. He was active in the church and tithed faithfully to it. The Lord blessed Laurence and Violet with three sons Jeffrey, Todd and David. He enjoyed supporting them at their many sporting events as they grew up.
He passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka. He was 91.
The family wishes to thank all the people that cared for him there.
Laurence is survived by his wife, Violet; two sons, Jeff (Nancy) Loeschen of Algona and their children Katlyn (Luke) Godwin and Trevor (Jessica) Loeschen; David (Darcy) Loeschen of Rock Dell, MN and their children Melody Loeschen, Jim (Carleane Capelle) Loeschen, and Makayla Loeschen. He is also survived by one great-grandchild Kloe Scharper.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Todd Loeschen, two stillborn sisters, brother Neal (Ardith) Loeschen, and grandson-in-law Riley Scharper.
