Laurie had a gentle strength that made others feel safe, and a heart so open it seemed there was always room for more. She was the kind of person who remembered everyone's birthday, welcomed strangers like old friends, and always made time to listen. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a comforting word, or a simple smile, Laurie made the world more compassionate.
Laurie was a wonderful mother to her daughters and enjoyed time at the lake as a family. She spent ample time relaxing while she sewed, making Halloween costumes and pajamas for her kids, blankets for her grandkids, and her favorite – clothes for her daughter's Barbies. She enjoyed traveling to see her daughters as they moved all over the country. Her specialty was helping them organize their new homes and joining them to see all the local tourist sites.
Laurie was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. She was involved with the Council of Catholic Women and a member of the St. Francis Guild for Women for many years. Laurie was active in the Parent Teacher Organization in Lewistown while her girls attended school.
Laurie is preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Olson; grandparents, Harry and Stephanie Stellingwerf; and son, Joseph Spika. She is survived by her husband, Russel; daughters, Stephanie (Tomm) Hickey, Allison Spika, and Julie Spika; grandkids, Finnegan, Declan, and Rowan Hickey; sister, Teri (Todd) Wilson; uncle, Ron (Julia) Stellingwerf; and honorary father, Sage Olson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 8th, St. Leo's Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery followed by a luncheon at St. Leo's, Mandatum Commons.
