Lavanda Jean Lenling was born on August 14, 1934, to Waldemar and Margaret (Pigors) Lenling in Ferney, South Dakota. She was baptized at West Hansen Church, where the foundation of her lifelong faith began. She graduated from Groton High School in 1952 and earned her teaching certificate shortly after. In 1956, she married Alan Clemensen, and together they made their home on a farm near Conde, South Dakota. There, they raised three children: Roger, Renee, and Caron.

In 1978, Lavanda and her family moved to Aberdeen, where she became a dental assistant for Dr. James W. Anderson and then Dr. H. Ray Duncan. In retirement, Lavanda found joy in baking, tending to her vibrant flower garden, taking walks, playing cards with friends, and spending precious time with her children and grandchildren. Lavanda was a dedicated volunteer at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and the Boys and Girls Club booth at the Brown County Fair.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Roger (Michelle) Clemensen of Conde, Renee (Michael) Splittgerber of Spring Branch, TX and Caron (Sean) Ihde of Delano, MN; her grandchildren: Logan (Megan) Clemensen, Shay (Danielle) Clemensen, Mitchell Splittgerber, Alyssa Splittgerber, Andrew Ihde, and Alexander Ihde; and her great-grandchildren: Addy, Mason, and Beau Clemensen

Lavanda was preceded in death by her loving parents, Waldemar and Margaret Lenling, and her siblings Glenn (Lois) Lenling, Bonnie (Crady) Bender, and baby brother Eugene Lenling. She was also preceded in death by her very best friends, Lois Nerland, Lois Clemensen, Betty Clemensen, and Lorraine Krage.
