Laverna Mae Holcomb

Laverna Mae Holcomb, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 2:36 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center. She was born September 20, 1940, in Enid, Oklahoma, the daughter of Marvin Leroy and Lela Mae (Huntsinger) Newman.

Laverna was a 1958 graduate of Enid, Oklahoma High School. She attended Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas and Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois, receiving her bachelor's degree in teaching. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.

On December 27, 1962, she married Robert Holcomb in Enid, Oklahoma.

Laverna is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert; two sons, Tom Holcomb and his wife, Janet, of Blue Springs, Missouri and Tim Holcomb and his wife, Kelley, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; one daughter, Stephanie Jordan and her husband, Jeff of Thompson's Station, Tennessee; two brothers, Ronald Newman and his wife, Peggy, of Enid, Oklahoma and Mervyn Newman and his wife, Darla, of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Laverna was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin, and Lela and one brother, Leroy Newman.

A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:0 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Goss Cemetery, northwest of Mt. Vernon.
