Laverna Stapleton, 53, dear mom, grandma, sister and aunt gained her wings on March 20, 2024, at her home in Salina, OK. She was the biggest supporter when it came to her children and grandchildren. She had a love so deep for her family and friends.
Laverna was born in Gravette, Ark on June 26, 1970, to Richard and Betty Blackbear.
Her love, strength and determination were shown through her children, Heather and Jeremy Smith of Kenwood, OK, Matthew and Miriam Stapleton of Salina, OK and Emily Stapleton of the home. Her favorite role was being grandma to her grandchildren, Raini, Kabree, Kiowah and Keenai Smith and Matayah, Malayna, and Baby Sister "M" Stapleton. She was the sister to Cara Hawley of Kenwood, OK, Elisha Blackbear of Spavinaw, OK and Forrest and Jennifer Blackbear of Tahlequah, OK. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Laverna is preceded in death by her mother and father, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
She will be remembered for her willingness to try anything once, being Grandma Verna to any child that would accept her and her love for cooking. She treasured every moment with her family and family time was what she enjoyed the most. She was a member of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokees and was proud of her heritage.
Laverna loved beading, cooking, making baskets with her aunts, swimming, looking for onion, mushrooms, camping, floating, dancing, anything her kids or grandkids done she wanted to be a part of. She loved decorating, hosting, and she was a lot of help to so many people. She worked with many companies, but her dream job was working for the Chief at the UKB. She always said that was her Major Accomplishment in her life. Her most recent job was working in the kitchen at Thunderbird in Pryor, OK and loved it as well!!
Laverna's Wake Service will be held at 6:00pm, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Lawson's Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346, followed by her visitation until 8:00pm.
