LaVerne Howard Ambrose was born on July 30, 1957 in Creston, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Aneita (Barnes) Ambrose. He graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1975. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his Country until his honorable discharge.
On April 26, 1974, LaVerne was united in marriage to Jan Miller in Hopkins, Missouri. To this union, they were blessed with one son, Robin LaVerne. The couple later divorced. In 1983, LaVerne met Katja Schroth while he was stationed in Germany and the couple later married on May 17, 1985. From this union, they were blessed with one son, Daniel Ambrose.
He began his career as a Emergency Medical Technician at Crawford County Memorial Hospital on April 1, 1985, and later obtained his Paramedic License where he touched countless lives with his compassion and skill. His commitment to serving the community extended to his role as a Dispatcher for the Denison Police Department from March of 1999 until his well-deserved retirement in October of 2019.
Over the years, LaVerne served as a member of the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Board from January 2005 until 2021 when health concerns led him to resign. Additionally, he held the position of past President within the Crawford County EMS Association and was an esteemed member of the Denison American Legion Post No. 8.
Throughout his life, LaVerne created an abundance of precious memories that will be cherished by all who knew him. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending his earlier years engaging in activities such as fishing and hunting, and was an avid black jack player. LaVerne's heart swelled with pride as he cheered on his granddaughters during their sporting events. In retirement, he enjoyed watching the Price is Right show and eagerly awaited the yearly family reunions where he could connect with loved ones.
Above all, LaVerne held a special place in his heart for his best friend schnoodle puppy, Bella, whose company brought him comfort and happiness each day. His family was his greatest treasure, and he cherished every moment spent in their loving presence.
LaVerne passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of 66 years, 9 months, and 17 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Aneita Ambrose; grandparents, Frank and Lena Ambrose; parents-in-law, Walter and Marianne (Wachs) Schroth; step father-in-law, Gerhard Euler; sisters-in-law, Barbara and her husband Weldon Kinnison and Petra Bruebach.
He is survived by his wife, Katja Ambrose of Denison; sons, Rob Ambrose and wife Stacy and their daughters: Delaney, Hailey and Kayley, all of Underwood; and Daniel Ambrose and his significant other Michelle Kao of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters: Barbara and husband Ray O'Dell of Gravity, Iowa; and Pamela and husband Greg Rood of Ramsey, Minnesota; sisters-in-law: Heidrun and her husband Ed Larson of Emmett, Idaho; Eva Miller and her fiancé John Hazelwood of Beaver, Pennsylvania; and Elvira “Beutzi” Heiderich of Goettingen, Germany; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation with Family Greeting Friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 in the Washington Cemetery in Gravity, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Denison American Legion Post No. 8.The nightly ceremony in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated in honor of your loved one on the day of your choosing.
