Cumberland, MD – LaVerne Fay Volk, 78, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at her home.
Born February 28, 1945, in Cumberland, MD, Ms. Volk was the daughter of the late William C. Mort and Mary A. (Wigfield) Mort. She was also preceded in death by her younger sister: Donna M. (Mort) Groves; and her son: William Volk.
LaVerne graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1963, then went on to graduate from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Memorial Hospital and she was a hospice home care nurse for many years. LaVerne was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for 45 years, where she was very active, and was also the Parish Nurse. LaVerne enjoyed crocheting and making baby blankets for everyone. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
LaVerne is survived by her daughter: Jody Volk; her grandchildren: Brittany Adkins and husband, Fred, and Casey Rhodes; her great grandchildren: Luna and Raven Adkins; her sisters: Linda Kalbaugh and husband, John, and Karen Baker; and her best friend: Sue Stotler: as well as several nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at the St. John's Lutheran Church, 400 Arch Street Cumberland, MD, on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 1:00 P.M., with Reverend Dr. Alexa Smith officiating. Friends will be received two hours prior to the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Home Hospice and LaVerne's hospice nurse friends for all the care and compassion given.
