LaVerta Marie DeVant

LaVerta Marie DeVant was born December 30, 1956 in Chicago Illinois to the union of Rev. Aubrey “A.J.” Lowery and Mary Alice Cross. She passed away October 24, 2025.

She was a vibrant soul with a heart of gold she was so funny out going and a true giver of love.

Marie was preceded in death by her siblings, Aubrey (Larry Jr.) Lowery, Michael Lowery, Richard Lowery, Charline Harris; her beloved children, Breshette Bianca “Bebe” DeVant and Andre DeVant; her cherished granddaughter, London DeVant.

To know Marie was to love her. You couldn’t help but call her “Mom”. She had a deep passion for cooking and a deep love for people. She loved God. She had a lifelong admiration for the artist formerly known as Prince Yes you read it right. Her laughter, warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew her. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Raymond ( Sarah) Lowery and Audrey ( Daniel ) Gause; her siblings, William Harris, Sheryl Sturgeon, Bernard Harris and Brandon Cross; the love of her life Lee Grant Tony; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grand children and a host of cousins, nieces nephews other relatives and friends all of whom she loved.
