Lawrence Olaus “Larry” Benson, age 100, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died on Friday morning, December 10, 2021 at Cannon Rivers Senior Living.
Larry was born on February 15, 1921 in Stanton Township, the son of Oren and Lydia (Traeger) Benson. He schooled in Cannon Falls and went on to work in carpentry and maintenance throughout his career.
He married Berniece “Bernie” Goudy on May 29, 1943 at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, where Larry remained a lifetime active member.
He found great joy in creating, building and refinishing wood items for others, in hunting and fishing, and in spending time with family. While living at Cannon Rivers, he shared his drawings of birds and flowers with fellow residents. He was the last remaining owner of Ten Bucks Lodge in Nevis, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his devoted wife of 59 years, Bernie on August 30, 2002; his daughter, Bonnie Kay Benson on February 24, 2007; sisters, Corrine Jesme and Louise (Wilmer) Robinson; and brother, Carl (Helen) Benson.
He will be greatly missed by his son and wife, Dennis and Joan Benson of Lakeville; two grandchildren, Margaret (Andy) Schletz of Rosemount and Ross (Briana) Benson of Lakeville; five great-grandchildren, Lydia, Colette & Ian Schletz, and Korbin and Kyler Benson; along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 10-11 am, at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and you can access that below. Masks and social distancing are required.
Active pallbearers will be Ross Benson, Andy Schletz, Mick Goudy, Craig Goudy, Gary Robinson, and Doug Robinson.
Memorials are preferred to First English Lutheran Church.
